Ready, steady, LO-GO!

Imagine that you are shopping in your local supermarket. You are in search of a particular organic product to complete tonight’s perfect, and nutritious, dinner. You check the label of the fresh organic milk, bread or sweet-smelling fruit and think: This organic logo is both original and clever.
Now, imagine that YOU have designed the EU organic logo!

In July 2010, a new EU logo for organic products will be introduced throughout the European Union. Contrary to the existing EU organic logo, which can be used voluntarily, the use of the new logo will be compulsory for all pre-packaged organic products that originate in the 27 Member States.

The new logo will indicate to European consumers that the organic product has achieved a specified level of quality which is standard throughout the entire EU. The logo ensures that the products it appears on are organic – from the farm to the fork.
Who may enter?

All EU design or art students are invited to submit their most innovative designs to the competition for the new organic logo. Participants must be registered at an academy, university or college in one of the 27 EU Member States. The entries must be submitted by 25 June 2009.
Who chooses the winner?

A jury of leading design professionals and organic farming experts will make the initial shortlist of entries, which will then be showcased on this website. In an exciting online vote, the European public will then choose their favourite logo, which could be placed on millions of future EU organic products!
Why take part?

Contributing to the organic movement is just one great reason for participating in the Organic Logo Competition. Supporters of organic farming believe in sustainable agricultural practices that benefit the earth and the life forms on it. Along with promoting environmental quality for generations to come, organic food is simply delicious! And on top of that, winning the competition could be a milestone in your development as a designer.

The winner and the two runners-up will receive prizes with a value of:

* First prize 6,000 euro
* Second prize 3,500 euro
* Third prize 2,500 euro

They will also be invited to the official competition awards ceremony taking place in Brussels in the summer of 2010.
